There are many species of mint found and used worldwide like Mentha piperita, Menta arvensis, Mentha X rotundifolia (L.) Huds etc.

Habitat: Near the rivers, ponds and some other humid places.

Indian Local and common names :-Pudina , Mint ,koshu , horsemint.
Nature of Pudina Plant:-
This plant is related to the menthe genus and it is an aromatic herb. Many species grow wild; some of them are cultivated. The chief constituent for which these plants are valued are menthol and peppermint oil.This medicinal plant is an erect branched herb upto about 55 cm high. Leaves upto 6 cm long. Flowers small, in small brunches, borne on axile leaves,”medicinal seeds” are also very useful.

Mint plants contain an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent called rosmarinic acid which has been studied for its effectiveness in relieving seasonal allergy symptoms, revealing a promising natural treatment.

It is very useful for breastfeeding mothers.
Soar Throat :-
Mint contains menthol, a natural aromatic decongestant that helps to break up phlegm and mucus, making it easier to expel.Menthol also has a cooling effect and can help relieve a sore throat, especially when combined with tea.
Indigestion (Stomachic, Hepatic & Carminative) :-
Mint is a calming and soothing herb that has been used for thousands of years to aid with upset stomach or indigestion.Mint is useful in diarrhea. Mint is thought to increase bile secretion and encourage bile flow, which helps to speed and ease digestion (and which may also support healthy cholesterol levels).Do you remember Pudin haraa.
Antiflatulence :-
Peppermint is also thought to relieve pain and discomfort from gas and bloating. Peppermint tea is a common home remedy for flatulence.

In a study in animals, menthol was found to have a potential role in preventing gastric ulcers associated with alcohol consumption and regular use of painkillers.
Pain Relief :-

It found that people who frequently use chewing gum, whose major active ingredient is mint, had higher levels of memory retention and mental alertness than those who did not. The stimulant qualities of mint, once again, have shown yet another reason to pop that stick of gum in your mouth, or chew some leaves when you’re feeling less than brilliant!

Drinks and foods containing mint cool you off in the summer, and it is often included in summer cocktails for a refreshing burst of flavor. It is also a good relaxant.
One peculiar property of mint that seems quite contrary to its traditional cooling and soothing effects is that it induces sweating if consumed during fever, thereby breaking the fever and speeding the rate of recovery. Mint juice can also be applied to heal & soothe burns. It is also beneficial in the treatment of rheumatism . Furthermore, the herb is also said to improve activity of brain although legitimate and consistent research on its neurological impact has yet to be completed.
